PERIODONTAL DISEASE

PERIODONTAL DISEASE

Chances are you’ve been hearing a lot about periodontal disease. Most people don’t realize how common periodontal disease - also known as gum disease - is. In fact, three out every four adults have some form of this disease. In most cases, periodontal disease does not cause any pain and goes unnoticed. However, early detection and treatment are extremely important. Gum disease is the leading cause of tooth loss in adults. Periodontal disease occurs when plaque builds up and irritates the gum and bone, leading to inflammation and infection. The earliest stage of gum disease is called gingivitis. In later stages of the disease, the bone and soft tissues that support the teeth are destroyed. This may cause the teeth to become loose and eventually fall out or have to be removed. For these reasons, it’s so important to schedule regular dental visits and to brush and clean between your teeth daily. Please call our office to schedule an appointment at your earliest convenience. We’d like to help you keep your teeth and gums healthy for a lifetime.
